The results of this study show that the steroid drug Dexamethasone reduces deaths substantially in COVID-19 patients who receive oxygen or mechanical ventilation whilst in hospital.

Amongst participants receiving oxygen alone, the risk of death was reduced by 20%, and in patients receiving mechanical ventilation the risk of death was reduced by 35%. It has therefore been recommended that Dexamethasone becomes standard treatment for hospitalised patients with COVID-19 receiving oxygen or ventilation.
